| This bird is usually found in thedamp and dingy ferny
undergrowth areas of Tasmania's temperate rainforest. I have seen it on
Bruny Island and at Meander Falls in the Great Western Tiers. It is
sometimes seen or heard higher in the trees. It is similar in size to the
White-browed Scrub Wren and the Brown thornbill. White wing markings,
prominent pale lemon throat and a longer, more curved bill than White-browed
scrubwren. It is a most active little bird foraging for insects amongst moss
and lichens on tree trunks, often climbing logs and tree trunks similar to a
Tree creeper. Breeding season is from September-January. Nests are low and
often in tree ferns. This bird is considered endangered on King Island,
although good numbers still appear over Tasmania. Voice is a whistled
"too whee too"Wielangta Forest Drive between Orford and Copping is also
a good spot to see these birds. See
