Forty-spotted pardalote   Pardalotus quadragintus

This bird is considered threatened in Tasmania. It lives in the canopy of eucalyptus viminalis and feeds on leaf insects and lerps (manna). Measuring about 9 - 10 cm, the body is light olive green with pale yellow around the eye and on the rump. The wings are black with distinctive white dots. Unlike its close relative, the spotted pardalote, there are no head markings. This bird can been seen on Bruny Island and in the Peter Murrells Conservation Area south of Kingston
